Students will assume the role of an army general for either the Confederate or Union army. Students will research what issues created conflict between the Northern and Southern states and how this conflict led to the Civil War. They will then write and present a speech to their soldiers, explaining why they are there and what winning the war would accomplish. The speech should inspire the soldiers before they enter the battlefield. Students will provide a bibliography with their speeches. The speech can be recorded on video or given live.
• Students will work independently or with a partner on this project.
• Read Worksheet 1 and review the plan steps found on the worksheet.
