Our legislature is modeled on the British Parliament, which also has two houses--the house of Lords, or upper house, and the house of Commons, or lower house. While we have no aristocracy in the United States, can you think of any reason for identifying the U. S. Senate as the upper house of our legislature and the house of House of Representatives as the lower house?
