The Patriot Act is a pretty controversial topic, as some believe it is an invasion of privacy, while others believe it is needed to help Americans be safe. The United States Patriot Act allows the government and/or law enforcement essentially use very heavy surveillance, tracking, and other things to spy on individuals suspected of terrorist activity. Along with this, the Patriot Act makes it harder for people who were formally engaged in terrorist activity into the United States, along with giving aid to victims of terrorism. The Patriot Act was passed after 9/11, as many Americans were scared for their future safety, while some argue that is it unconstitutional.

president jefferson protested this interference in american trade. he sent james monroe to london to negotiate a treaty. jefferson wanted britain to stop taking sailors from american ships, and to stop interfering in the trade of neutral nations. monroe tried many times to discuss such an agreement. but the british foreign minister was always too busy to see him.
