Online piracy is basically Intellectual Property Theft, define as such by the FBI.

So, the purpose of online piracy is to steal ideas, inventions, or any creative expressions; all these involve intellectual property theft, which is actually against the law.

But, why do I think that these activities should be prosecuted?

Basically, because these people are stealing others effort to gain their life, are taking them away their products of creativity, just like a car steal, ideas can be stolen too. Imagine that you have a new invention, but before you release it to the market, your neighbour do so. Those years you worked hard are gone.
