What do you admire most about your community? What would you improve? In my community of San Marcos, the streets are clean and free of criminal activity. City council is inclined to promote the safety and maintenance of the educational atmosphere, with police officerson regular patrol and school administrators assuring that students meet the basic requirements for graduation. Philanthropic organizations and thelocal library encourage every citizen to attain a degree of competence, offering programs that teach english for foreigners, read books for children, or open workshops for self-motivated students. The entire structure of the community is based on the same progressive principle-- that the government should manifest a disposition friendly to the well-being of every citizen. My community represents the seminal words of Thomas Jefferson, that each individual is endowed “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” My community can ascertain that each individual is given a fair opportunity to prosper despite current status. If I were to amend any issue, I would improve the outreach of these programs to minorities. Due to their lack of awareness, they gloss over the benefits and continue intheir cycle of mediocrity. In order to guarantee that each person attains equal opportunities, they must first become aware that help is available.
