In my Module one short story the theme is they are showing you his own experiences at a prison it also shows the apathy of the prison. Also, it tells you about their constant craving and wanting to fill that craving. In the story it states in the beginning that they lacked the strength to experience emotions, to seek easier work. Also, it states how Vaarlam negotiates with Shestakov for food to satisfy his hunger.
