Carefully consider what Thoreau wrote on the preceding page. Frequently, when people speak out and say that something the government is doing is wrong, they are accused of being "Un-American" or disloyal. Thoreau argues that speaking up for what America should be instead of what it is now is very American, and people who do so should be celebrated, not attacked. What do you think? Is there anything going on today like this? Should people speak out or accept things the way they are? Is there anything that you would be willing to go to jail for?
