Indo-European languages are the world's largest family of languages. They all came from a single language called Proto-Indo-European. The Indo-European languages are a family of several hundred related languages and dialects, including most major languages of Europe. The languages of the Indo-European group have about three billion native speakers. In Europe, three main language groups came from the Indo-Europeans: Germanic, Romance, and Slavic. These languages originated in northern, western and central Europe. Thirteen world languages spoken today are Germanic. The most commonly known Germanic Languages in Europe are German, English, Dutch, and Norwegian.

The third most widely spoken language group in Europe are the Romance Languages. The Greek and Romans spread their languages across Europe as they conquered land. Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Italian are Romance Languages. The Romance language family is one of the biggest in the world, and in total, there are almost a billion first and second Romance Language speakers. Spanish is the widest used Romance language, and then comes Portuguese and French.
