PLZ HELP AND HURRY BUT ONLY IF YOUR RIGHT AND YOU HURRY!! The grammar of an ASL sentence is different than English. There are many grammar structures. We are going to focus on TIME, TOPIC, COMMENT.

TIME words are words like today, yesterday, Monday, last week, tomorrow and they go first in an ASL sentence.

TOPIC words are nouns which could be the subject of the sentence or the object of the sentence. You get to determine which word is the TOPIC and sign that immediately following the TIME word or first in a sentence if there isn’t a TIME word. Often the object is signed first to set the stage. SVO (subject, object, verb) order and OSV (object, subject, verb) order are both used in ASL. We are going to practice OSV order because it is different than English.

COMMENT words are the verb phrase that follows the subject of the sentence.

ARTICLES and TO BE verbs are omitted in ASL.
All nouns are singular and verbs are present tense. Other signs are added to nouns to indicate plurals and to change the tense of the verbs.

Practice below by labeling each sentence and writing each sentence in T (TIME) + OSV (object, subject, verb) order. Copy the sentences to Word document or to Google to work on it. Please write your sentences in all capital letters to indicate it is ASL.
