Oaxaca: I genuinely think this city is the most beautiful out of the four. This city in Mexico is usually dry, somewhat hot, and rainy during the summer. To the south of Oaxaca is the Pacific Ocean, the northeast is the city of Veracruz, the east is the city of Chiapas, and to the northwest we have the cities of Puebla and Guerrero. An interesting fact is that this city is that it has seven out of nine terrestrial plants on this Earth. It has about 5% of total plant species in the world. Also, mountain ranges and terrain make up about 90% of the city. A cool place to visit in Oaxaca is the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzman. This church was opened in 1731 and is still seen as the best attraction in Oaxaca. Exploration is the best thing to do in this city because of the sheer amount of landmarks like the Monte Alban, the Hierve el Agua, and the Museo de las Culturas de Oaxaca. The community in this city makes it clear they find Benito Juarez, a former president of Mexico from 1858-1872, is like a hero to them. The people in this city also love to celebrate The Guelaguetza, Noche de Rabanos, and Semana Santa. One big tip if you plan on going there is that it’s pronounced like it has a W in the beginning. So it’d be Wah-hah-kah.

Guerrero: This city is extremely dry and receives only 6 inches of rainfall a year. Guerrero directly borders the Pacific Ocean to the south. To the east it borders Oaxaca, Puebla towards northeast, Mexico city towards the north, and borders Michoacan towards the northwest. Guerrero has a city called Acapulco that has a perfect view to the Pacific Ocean. It has beautiful hotels and beaches and is overall a great place to go to. This city also has 7 types of regions, and one of them, Danza de Los Diablos, has a mix of both African and Mexican culture. A tip is usually not to drink tap water because it can be impure. Also, people in large crowds sometimes pickpocket so be safe.

Chiapas: Chiapas is a humid and tropical city. It has around 120 inches of rainfall per year and most of that comes from summer. This city is split into 7 geographical regions: the Pacific Coast Plains, the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, the Central Depression, the Central Highlands, the Eastern Mountains, the Northern Mountains, and the Gulf Coast Plains. The top attractions in Chiapas are Steps in San Cristobal, Zona Arqueologica de Palenque, National Park of Palenque, and Yaxchilan. Since Chiapas was once taken over by Indians, some of that culture still exists today. The community celebrates festivals like the Chiapa De Corzo fair, The Parachicos, Tuxtla Carnival, and the San Juan Chamula Carnival. Music is also a big component in their culture. I couldn’t find a whole lot of tips and advice about Chiapas but I do know many people there use buses and taxis to traverse around.

Tabasco: This city’s climate is generally hot and wet with about 82 inches of rainfall per year. Tabasco borders the Gulf of Mexico to the north, Campeche to the northeast, Guatemala to the southeast, Chiapas to the south, and borders Veracruz to the west. It’s a bit smaller than the state of Vermont. Almost all of its land is flat and low. One crazy fact is that Tabasco has almost ⅓ of all of Mexico’s water resources, probably due to the city bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Tabasco is home to the Parque Museo La Venta, a museum established in 1958. It’s also home to the Yumka, a nature preserve. The community celebrates New year’s day, Constitution Day, Benito Juarez’s birthday, Labor Day, Revolution Day, and of course, Christmas. Part of their culture is home to the Villahermosa’s baseball team. One interesting advice I can give you about Tabasco is that there’s only one international airport!
