True! Unlike the stock exchange, real estate investments aren't updated by the media on a daily basis. This means that the latter tends to be more predictable and stable - just as with a savings account. Also, you cannot lose your initial investment. Even if you don't earn interest/make a profit, you may still withdraw your initial deposit/resell at original price. The beauty of real estate is that, if all else fails, you may choose to keep the house for yourself. Real estate investments and savings accounts both better your financial situation.
