This particular object would be what is called a symbol. To explain it more easily think of the crown which is a symbol of royalty of a king or queen. The more elaborate the epaulets on a soldier’s uniform the higher rank he has. Or look at the Game of Thrones where a badge is a symbol for the Hand of the King.
