Was john proctor upper class, middle class, lower class, or poor?

John Proctor was an upper class farmer from England, but he wasn´t born rich, his father, Mr. Proctor took him to america when he was 3 years old, and after a while he became a successful man, then John moved to Salem, Massachusetts and rented a tavern, after three marriages, 17 children, and lots of properties, he was accused of witchcraft for defending his last wife Elizabeth, who was accused previosly. he was executed on August 19th, 1692.
