Paul is a staunch German who loves his country. He is astounded that the Nazi party was able to take hold of the government so quickly. Paul attends a Catholic church, along with his wife, Gerta. Paul is Jewish by birth but converted to Catholicism when they married. Now they have three young children. Paul reads the morning paper and notices an article about the new Nuremberg Laws about to go into effect. Immediately, Paul makes arrangements to take his family out of the country. Why is Paul likely so desperate to obtain passage for his family to Britain?
