Read the excerpt from "Killer Whales and Great White Sharks.” Killer whales and sharks are both meat-eaters, so they have powerful teeth. But their teeth are very different. Killer whales have forty to fifty-two teeth, which are about four inches long and shaped like cones. Sharks have many more teeth and much sharper ones. The great white shark has up to three hundred triangle-shaped teeth, which cut like knives. A shark’s mouth has up to seven rows of these short but terrifying teeth. Even though their teeth are so different, the shark and whale eat in the same way. Neither animal chews its food. Instead, they rip off chunks of meat from their prey and swallow the chunks whole.
