1. Read this excerpt from a political speech. Then complete the chart by identifying some of the most important characteristics of the speech. (8 points) The greatest problem facing the United States today is the threat of terrorism. As members of Congress, we must do everything possible to ensure the safety of the citizens we represent. That is why I strongly urge my fellow senators to support this new antiterrorism bill. It will increase funding for vital security programs and allow law enforcement to more easily access the phone and Internet records of suspected terrorists. The bill will also make it more difficult for immigrants to enter this country if they're from areas with significant terrorist activity. This will help us stop terrorists before they have the chance to attack. Some organizations claiming to support civil liberties and immigrants' rights have criticized me for sponsoring this bill, but nobody should listen to anything they say. They apparently support terrorists having free access to our country! If you side with Americans and not terrorists, you will vote for my bill.

A. in weeks v. united states (1914), the court established the exclusionary rule, which was incorporated to the states in mapp v. ohio (1961), and the court established the concept of a "good faith exception" to the exclusionary rule in united states v. leon (1984). in their opinion, the supreme court pointed out that compliance with the exclusionary rule can have a cost to society (criminals can go free) that outweighs the benefits (stopping illegal searches by police). ultimately, the court determined that despite the exclusionary rule, evidence can still be admitted in situations where police made genuine "good faith" efforts to act legally, but technically acted illegally, in obtaining the evidence. explain the exclusionary rule good faith exception and explain and support whether you agree or disagree with the concept of a good faith exception to the exclusionary rule? why or why not? use the lesson notes and/or one news source to support your answer.

Aplaintiff filed a civil action based on negligence against a defendant in federal district court, alleging that the defendant negligently ran a red light at an intersection and collided with the plaintiff's vehicle, causing the plaintiff's injuries. a week after the close of discovery, the plaintiff filed a motion for summary judgment on the issue of whether the defendant was negligent. with the motion, the plaintiff filed (i) his own sworn affidavit, which stated that the traffic signal was green as he entered the intersection, (ii) an affidavit of a witness who was driving the car behind him, which stated that the witness saw the entire incident and that the plaintiff's traffic signal was green as he approached and entered the intersection; and (iii) an affidavit of another witness, which stated that she saw the entire incident and that the defendant's signal had been red for several seconds before the defendant entered the intersection and was still red when the defendant entered the intersection. the defendant filed a response to the motion, noting that her answer denied negligence and further denied that her traffic signal was red, and argued that the issue of negligence and the issue of whether her traffic signal was red were in dispute, so those issues should be tried to a jury. how should the court rule on the plaintiff's motion?
