Read the passage from a U. S. Census Bureau report on voter turnout among young-adult voters and then explain what effect this data should have on future national campaigns. (Select all that apply.) Since 1996, a gender voting rate gap has been consistently present for most age groups, particularly young voters. In every election in this section, young women between the ages of 18 through 29 voted at higher rates than young men of the same ages, reaching a differential of about 8 percentage points in 2008. In each election since 1996, women have voted at higher rates than men for all age groups except in the oldest age group.
Candidates should clearly explain what legislation they have sponsored or supported that improved women’s ability to succeed economically and socially.
The political parties should actively recruit more men to run for political office thus encouraging more men to vote.
Candidates’ campaigns should create messages that portray their candidate as aware and responsive to women’s issues and concerns.
Candidates should propose legislation if elected that reduces men’s salaries and wages so they are equal to those of women.
