A citizen can currently give no more than $2,600 per candidate for federal office per election in a given two-year election cycle. The base limits in the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 as modified by the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 which authorize an individual to subsidize up to $2,600 per election to a candidate $32,400 per year to a national party committee; $10,000 per year to a state or local party committee; and $5,000 per year to a political action committee. A national committee, state or local party committee, or multi candidate PAC may in turn subsidize up to $5,000 per election to a contender.
