This technique is used to gather basic information that may be useful to assess the survivor's needs or concerns so that mental health specialist can give immediate response to their needs in a manner suitable for the survivors. The approach of mental health specialist should vary according to the age and background of the survivor. Children and adults have different needs and concerns in their personal struggle. This technique provides the survivor with information that would be useful during the course of their recovery.
