The two main career paths used as entrees by professionals to move into the security field are military or law enforcement and technical IT professionals. A lot of colleges and universities are opening to offer courses and degrees in information security, so many students are also starting to work their way into the InfoSec field as well.

Other paths include network expert programmers, database administrators and system administrators. However many hiring managers in the information security field favour to recruit security professionals who have demonstrated excellent IT skills and professional experience in another IT field. IT professionals who moved into information security however, lean to focus on technology sometimes in place of general information security issues.
