I think that asking for the 5 contributions of ancient Rome to modern society would be imprecise no matter how you answered it. If your teacher is asking for the 5 contributions, they are probably referring to a specific reading.

1. Ancient Rome was the first country to have an effective democracy for large numbers of people. They had a representative democracy that was intended to prevent hereditary monarchy (only mostly successful).
2. The ancient Roman system of democracy also originated a system of checks and balances to ensure that government power was not too concentrated.
3. Roman law originated a division between what was then called public and private law and is now referred to as criminal and civil law.
4. Roman law also started the idea of "innocent until proven guilty", which is still a rule that criminal proceedings in the united states follow.
5. The Latin language, spread across the Eurasian landmass by the Roman empire, is the basis of many modern languages including Spanish, French, and Italian. (English is technically a Germanic language, but it also contains strong Latin influences.)
