Unlike kinetic energy, which is the energy of motion, potential energy is the energy that emanates from the relative position in relation to the surface of the Earth, at the moment the body is stationary. This form of energy has the potential to change the state of other objects in the environment. Every body that lays on the earth's surface, more precisely at the sea level, and rests has the potential energy equal to the gravity g. When the body is raised to a height h from the sea level, and in this position the body is stationary, the potential energy of the body is increased for the value mgh. In this case, the potential energy is calculated according to the formula:

E = g + mgh

where m is the mass of the body and h is the height at which the body is raised from the sea level (earth's surface).

Therefore, it is said that potential energy depends on the relative position of the body.

The answer is: mass and height.
