On this day in 1925, the Great Tri-State Tornado, the worst in U. S history, cuts a 219 mile path through eastern Missouri, southern Illinois, and southern Indiana, killing 695 people, injuring some 13,000, and causing $17 million in property damage. If this same tornado happened today, why would it be less deadly than in 1925?
