The urbanization also caused immigrants to move to towns, because of the hardships, conflicts or job shortages they had to face in their home countries.

Manufacturing grew in cities because of the Industrial Revolution. The transportation revolution increased trade to and from cities. Many immigrants settled in cities as they searched for work. Many people moved from the countryside to cities in search of jobs.
