Do countries with natural resources do well in global trade?

Trade can help to address problems related to the unequal geographical distribution of a natural resource when it is the goods embodying that resource that are exchanged rather than the resource itself. Natural resources have a double-edged effect on economic growth, in that the intensity of its use raises output, but increases its depletion rate, so no it does not do well in global trade is what I am thinking.
