Why was the capture of Atlanta important to the Union?
a. Because of its central location on the southern railways, it served as the center of Confederate military operations.
b. It was home to the only steel mill in the South and was used to manufacture all of the Confederacy’s weapons.
c. Many enslaved persons lived in Atlanta, so the city’s capture allowed the North to fulfill the goals of the Emancipation Proclamation.
