During the Civil War the North and the South went to war over different views on certain issues with the main one being slavery. Hundreds of thousands died on both sides but in the end it was shown that most of the deaths were not from wounds received in battle but rather disease.

Disease was responsible for the deaths of around two-thirds of the soldiers fighting in that war with Diarrhoea and Dysentery killing the majority as a result of poor sanitation and crowded conditions. Other diseases included malaria, pneumonia, tuberculosis and small pox.
