What action is the author of the passage recommending? Some opposed to Canada's adoption of the U. S. dollar will point to Europe in its creation of the euro, suggesting that Canada should sooner consider an 'amero' dollar than adopt the U. S. dollar. ...What applies so nicely in Europe, does not apply the same to North America. The reason why the euro works are because it is a group of countries ...which hold more equal power throughout. No one country dominates. ... North America has only one single major power. ... In GDP, both Canada and Mexico combined do not even make up one-fifth the GDP of the U. S. ... So what's stopping Canada? Part of the reason may be related to the emotional attachment to the Canadian dollar. Some Canadian nationalists feel that Canada would lose its identity if it were to lose its currency. This is quite perplexing in comparison to much of Europe. With all its distinct cultures, it has somehow managed to overcome nationalism, and come together to create a strong currency and stronger economy. By creating a European currency, the euro has now become the second most valuable currency in the financial world.
