Charles Darwin sailed to the Galápagos Islands on the HMS Beagle. He observed that birds had slightly different physical characteristics on different islands. He combined these observations with observations made by other scientists to develop a theory regarding natural selection. How did Darwin’s work influence scientific knowledge concerning how species change? Darwin only collected data from the Galapagos Islands so scientists from other areas didn’t find it useful.

Darwin collected all the necessary data so scientists no longer had to study how species change over time.

Darwin demonstrated that new knowledge regarding evolution must be supported by empirical evidence and logical reasoning.
