Hi myself Shrushtee.
Explanation:
For some stupid reason, guys think that volleyball is “gay.”
Their reasoning is that there is no physical contact between players, so that makes it “gay.” Don’t ask me why, it confuses me too. However, it is still a tough sport, because it requires a lot of athleticism and quick reactions. Nothing is more frightening having a huge 6′6″ tall guy looking down at you over the net, about to slam it in your face.
This occurs mostly in the high school age. However, when you reach the adult age, it becomes more popular among men than women.
Here is a huge international volleyball tournament held in Mexico every year, which I have partaken in for the previous 2 years:
Last tournament, there were 148 men’s teams and 80 women’s teams. There have always been more men’s teams than women’s teams, besides I think for one or two years out of the 40 that the tournament has been running.
However, do note that this is in beach volleyball. I think that in indoor volleyball, it may be more popular among women because it is team-oriented, rather than more oriented about the individual (only two players per team in beach).
Edit: Just remembered that another absolutely stupid reason is that “you see lots of butts, more butts than faces.” They are implying that you actively stare at their butts, or that their butts are almost right against your face. This is just because in volleyball, the starting defense stance is in somewhat of a squat. Plus, you will always see more faces than behinds at any point in the game, no matter what position you are. A quarterback on a football team sees a greater ratio of butts to faces than in volleyball, and same for a soccer goalie. But they don’t get called “gay.” Strange. Teenage stupidity.
