To what extent are modern protests a continuation of ideas and resistance from the Revolutionary Era?

During the revolutionary era, common people joined forces to reject the idea that society should be run by a bunch of nobles who were granted the position of leaderships since birth.

They wanted their country to be run by someone who were appointed by the majority of the people. Not some guy who happens to be born in the right family.

But still, even after we established a representative democracy, that problem still exist.

Even in our government today, most of the people who are in power were someone who were born from wealthy families with deep pocket and connections to high ranking position. The poor people still have very little influence in the government.

This type of problem is what drive the modern protests that we seen in the last few years,
