Anything which contributes to the knowledge and capacities, total growth and well-being of the family-physical, mental, emotional, economic and spiritual can be included under the umbrella of family life education has its roots in many disciplines including sociology, social work, psychology, anthropology, biology, education, history etc.

The goals of the programme are often broad based. Its objectives are to promote the freedom to choose parenthood and the enrichment of human life along with members of the family.
