Going to college is analogous to working in a matrix environment in that most students take more than one class and must distribute their time across multiple classes. Time management is Key

Explanation:

Indeed taking multiple courses are cumbersome and the idea of experiencing this while going to college is enough to deter some individuals from attempting this. Having to "spread yourself thin" is the phrase often used by persons that need to do many tasks at once.

The problems that this will cause: There are topics that are heavier than others. There are also those that are more involved and just more interesting. A student may find that they perform better if they are fond of the topic and the teacher or information is easy to find for assignments.  If you are constrained with a few topics that are very involved and the information is hard to come across, it will be difficult to do all at your best potential. In the end one topic is covered extensively and the other may not be or all are done at a bare minimum. Since knowledge is validated by a grading system in college, one may fail such a course(s).

The system can be made more manageable: Erasing the need for graded general education courses if it is not in the individuals scope or major. Topics such as these are important for creating a well rounded individual but a lot of emphasis is placed on making a certain grade to qualify for not needing the class. Doing these courses on your own time is a great solution so long as they are completed before graduation.

The last responsibility is also to the student. Some college courses are flexible and they can select the courses that are heavy and light in order to make the work load manageable. Learning time management and work/life balance are the skills acquired in college.
