What were the advantages and disadvantages of public executions of offenders? would you favor televised public executions of offenders? if not, why not?

ADVANTAGES

Death penalty need not to be carried out with brutality

It reduces prisons overpopulation issues

Violent crimes can cubbed with death penalty

Any other punishments other than death penalty for capital crimes are disproportionate

With death penalty, the affected individual or groups of individuals, will not be re-victimized

DISADVANTAGES

Death penalty is the ultimate denial of human rights

Innocent people can also be executed unknowingly

The cost to prosecute death penalty is much higher than other cases

There is no reversal after execution takes place.

No, I will not favour televised public execution of offenders, because of the disadvantages stated above

panem is a communist totalitarian dictatorship where all the resources and how they are allocated belongs to the capitol. the districts exist only to provide goods and services for the capital and most of the citizens live in poverty. it is a police state where the "peacekeepers" use force and threats to keep the people under control. dissent is outlawed and those who disobey the law are executed, flogged, or turned into avoxes. the games are another means in which the ruling elite in the capitol exert their power over the districts. when reading the books i drew parallels between panem and the soviet union and north korea. in no way is panem capitalist. the people in the capitol are wealthy but the majority of them are involved in the government somehow. it was the same way in the former soviet union where bigwigs in the communist party and high ranking government officials were given access to goods, services, medical treatments not available to the general public. if you think panem has a capitalist economy you need to brush up on your economics.  

new communications technology has affected the way social movements are organized because nowadays, social movements rely on social networks and the media to get different people with a similar way of thinking in contact, and thus, get them to mobilize for a greater cause.

individuals only participate in collective action when they feel identified with it. is in this aspect that social media becomes relevant, because it guarantees communication among all individuals and organizes the social actions that are going to be carried out, i.e., the social movements.

in addition, being covered by the media is important to validate the message and make it relevant in the social agenda, as well as to reach more people who can share interests, appealing to public sympathy for their cause.

in conclusion, it is by social networks and social media that social movement is given birth; by connecting different individuals with similar ideas and organizing them to mobilize for a greater cause.
