In the first place, he says it is necessary to pay special attention to the way in which children are intellectually involved, Reardon explains the importance of teaching kids how to be interested in the cognitive process with activities such as reading.

In the second place, the author explains that it is also important to provide the necessary material for the intellectual development of the children, he mentions that of course, it is primordial to provide  and satisfy the basic needs of the being such as food and a roof to live in. Nevertheless, those basic need do not represent the only needs, due to the fact that the intellectual and cognitive development are also primordial in children.

In the third place, Reardon mentions the importance of the parents' knowledge and skills to share their experience with the children, because once they are the first and most important figure for them, they need to be focussed in offering the pertinent information in a clear and consistent way-

And finally, the author expresses about the concept of residential segregation, in which he focuses on the importance of offering children a good place home, safe, good schools and the possibility to develop activities that can contribute to a good development. In this part, with the segregation term, he explains how there is always going to be a difference among the social classes, the richer the family, the better places they will have. Nonetheless, it is always necessary with kids to make an extra effort to offer them the best environment.

panem is a communist totalitarian dictatorship where all the resources and how they are allocated belongs to the capitol. the districts exist only to provide goods and services for the capital and most of the citizens live in poverty. it is a police state where the "peacekeepers" use force and threats to keep the people under control. dissent is outlawed and those who disobey the law are executed, flogged, or turned into avoxes. the games are another means in which the ruling elite in the capitol exert their power over the districts. when reading the books i drew parallels between panem and the soviet union and north korea. in no way is panem capitalist. the people in the capitol are wealthy but the majority of them are involved in the government somehow. it was the same way in the former soviet union where bigwigs in the communist party and high ranking government officials were given access to goods, services, medical treatments not available to the general public. if you think panem has a capitalist economy you need to brush up on your economics.
