The examined life, was to Socrates an argument as he was held in trial allegadly for corrupting youths with his teachings:

There he states that an unexamined life is worthless

Offering council to others , working to lessen the suffering, etc can all be noble causes to live but, self-examination means working into the deepest motivations for taking our own decisions regarding what we spent our lifetime in.

If someone is just living according to what others do by repetition, following the trends of this world, then this life is not that special and there is always a way that Socrates & philosophy and art can influence life to get deeper insights.

Socrates I believe sugges us that we should be conscious of what we are doing in life , therefore from time to time it is necessary to pause and identify what is important in our lives and why.

From this we can explore our beliefs, try understanding better others as well.

As we have a clear insight in our lives we can achieve our full potential and become the best version of ourselves.
