There are a few materials that the purple colors were produced using, they incorporate the purple shellfish, folium from Crozophora, color from elderberries, blueberries, brazil wood, and furthermore from different lichens. Another shade of which there are numerous shades in the Book of Kells is blue, which has four separate shades utilized, light blue, sky blue, dull blue, and greenish blue. This last shade originates from indigo from the Imdigofera tinctura plant. The other three shades are produced using blends, in various specific proportions of lapis lazuli (which must be gotten from Afghanistan or Persia), indigo, and chalk.
