Why did john adams feel a certain way about the declaration of independence

John Adams was basically the cause of the declaration of independence (DI) because he was the one who convinced the authors of the DI to write it but in the process of making it the natural right (found by John Adams) was changed in the DI to the natural law by Benjamin Franklin.
