There are three branches of government in the united states. the executive, legislative and judicial branch. each branch of government has their own roles in each level, the federal, state, and local level. this is called separation of powers. the executive branch at the federal level would be considered the president. the president directs the executive branch. the president also has the power to sign or veto a law, as well as declare war. at the state level, the executive branch is the governor. the governors major duty would be the signing or vetoing or laws passed by the legislature. at the local level, the executive branch would be the mayor. the mayor regulates local department such as police, fire, education, and transportation. the legislative branch has duties to fulfill at every level, federal, state, and local, similar to the executive branch. at the federal level, the u. s. congress would be the legislative branch. the u. s congress is the lawmaking aspect of the government and has two parts. the senate, and the house of representatives. at the state level, the state legislature is a representative from the state who approves state budgets and initiate tax legislation. locally, the city council would be in charge of major project and infrastructure of the city in order to continue improving community growth and finances. finally, the judicial branch is in charge of interpreting laws in comparison to the constitution. federally, this would be the u. s supreme court, the largest and most powerful court in the u. s. at the state level, this would be considered appeal courts. and at the local level, the circuit courts, district courts, as well as probate courts are in charge of analyzing laws to determine right from wrong. separation of powers has a substantial effect on how the way a government works. without it, the u. s government would have no way of controlling power, as one branch would become the ultimate superior.
