Ava is not confident about giving speeches. though she works hard on her speech, by the time she sits down she knows she did not give the speech she had planned. when she meets with her professor to listen to feedback, ava focuses on the critical comments, such as she used too many vocal fillers and she forgot to state her thesis. however, ava does not pay much attention to her professor's positive comments on her research and closure. because of her preconceived notions about her speech, ava is engaging in what poor listening habit?

By just focusing on critical comments Ava is performing selective attention. Because she is not recovering all the good information about her speech only the information she considers important.

Even though it might look like she could be ignoring everything her professor has to say, it's not like that because if she was ignoring him she would not focus on the critical comments.
