Do this experiment to create an electromagnet. You will need the following:

3 feet of bare wire
D-cell battery
large iron nail
small paper clips
The Electromagnet Data Table
Follow these steps.

Leaving about 8 inches of wire loose at one end wrap the wire around the nail make 5 wraps. Try not to overlap the wire at any point.
Connect each end of the wire to an end of the battery by taping it in place. (See diagram above).
See how many small paperclips your battery can pick up. Record this in your electromagnet data table.
Repeat step 3 two more times. Then take an average of the number of paperclips.
Disconnect the battery and make an additional 5 wraps of the wire, for a total of 10 wraps.
See how many small paperclips your battery can pick up. Record this in your electromagnet data table.
Repeat step 6 two more times. Then take an average of the number of paperclips.
Disconnect the battery and make an additional 5 wraps, for a total of 15 wraps.
See how many small paperclips your battery can pick up. Record this in your electromagnet data table.
Repeat step 9 two more times. Then take an average of the number of paperclips.
Write a lab report to explain your findings.

Since the investigative question has two variables, you need to focus on each one separately. thinking only about the first part of the question, mass, what might be a hypothesis that would illustrate the relationship between mass and kinetic energy? use the format of "if…then…because…” when writing your hypothesis.

Awater balloon launcher uses an elastic band with a spring constant of 115 n/m to use thee launcher you stretch thee band back with a balloon n it the water balloons have a mass of 1.3 kg a) if you stretch the band by 0.8 m, what elastic force will the band exert? b) with the band stretched 0.8 m, how much elastic potential energy is stored in the spring? c) if you release the band, it pushes forward. what is the kinetic energy of the balloon when it reaches the natural length of the band? d) what is the speed of the balloon when it reaches the natural length of the band?
