Nuclear fission and radioactive decay releases many different types of charged particles that have the potential to damage cells and may lead to disease such as cancer. Of all the particles listed here, Alpha, Beta, Positron, Neutron, Gamma. Which particle is safe to hold in your hand and why?

A. Beta because it is low energy and low mass.

B. Gamma because it can penetrate anything so it is pointless to try and shield it.

C. Alpha particle because it is a highly charged helium isotope that cannot penetrate your skin because how big it is.

E. Positron because that is the one we never learned about and the rest are dangerous.

D. Neutron because it is a charged neutron particle but the tiny mass makes it the least likely to hurt the body.
