In 1867 the American astronomer Daniel Kirkwood pointed out that several gaps exist in the asteroid belt where relatively few asteroids are found. It is now understood that these Kirkwood gaps are caused by the gravitational attraction of Jupiter, the largest planet, which orbits the sun once every 11.86 years. As an example, if an asteroid has an orbital period half that of Jupiter, or 5.93 years, on every other orbit this asteroid would be at its closest to Jupiter and feel a strong attraction toward the planet. This attraction, acting over and over on successive orbits, could sweep asteroids out of the Kirkwood gap. Use this hypothesis to determine the orbital radius for this Kirkwood gap.

The place you get your hair cut has two nearly parallel mirrors 6.00 m apart. as you sit in the chair, your head is 2.00 m from the nearer mirror. looking toward this mirror, you first see your face and then, farther away, the back of your head. (the mirrors need to be slightly nonparallel for you to be able to see the back of your head, but you can treat them as parallel in this problem.) how far away does the back of your head appear to be?
