The owner of a plant store wanted to see if the amount of carbon dioxide in the air would affect how her plants grow. She set up two identical rooms, Room 1 and Room 2, in her greenhouse. She put one plant in each room. Both plants were the same size and mass, and both were given plenty of water. Room 1 had normal air with the normal level of carbon dioxide in it. Room 2 was filled with air that had extra carbon dioxide in it. See Figure 3.4 below, or the color version your teacher projects. Three months later, the store owner measured each of the plants. Do you think one plant was bigger than the other? Explain your answer using science ideas, evidence, and models. Check to be sure that your explanation meets the Explanation Quality Criteria.

Beryl states that insulation with the smallest possible thermal conductivity is best to keep a house warm in winter, but worst for keeping a house cool in summer. sapphire insists the reverse is true: low thermal conductivity is good in the summer, but bad in the winter. which one, if either is correct? a. beryl, because low thermal conductivity results in low heat transfer. b. beryl, because low thermal conductivity results in high heat transfer. d. sapphire, because low thermal conductivity results in high heat transfer. e. neither, because low heat transfer is desirable both in summer and in winter.

Asled is being held at rest on a slope that makes an angle θ with the horizontal. after the sled is released, it slidesa distance d1 down the slope and then covers the distance d2 alongthe horizontal terrain before stopping. find the coefficient ofkinetic friction μk between the sled and the ground, assumingthat it is constant throughout the trip. find the coefficient of kinetic frictionμk. express your answer in terms of someor all of the variables d1, d2, and θ.
