Read the students notes very carefully and write a complete materials list for the investigation. This investigation was about pulse rate we checked or pulse rates when we were resting and during different kinds of exercise. I thought that exercise would make our pulse rates increase. We used to watch with a second hand time ourselves when we measured our pulse rates. We measured our pulse for 15 seconds. We can use this measurement to calculate pulse rates per minute. We also check the pulse five minutes after exercise. We wanted to see if our pulse rates returned to the resting level. We will need to do calculations in order to convert these results to pulse rate per minute. These results should allow us to see the effect of exercise on our pulse rates. While we were investigating, we noticed that there are differences between our pulse rates. We wonder how much variation there is among all the students in our class.

As you are trying to move a heavy box of mass m, you realize that it is too heavy for you to lift by yourself. there is no one around to , so you attach an ideal pulley to the box and a massless rope to the ceiling, which you wrap around the pulley. you pull up on the rope to lift the box. use g for the magnitude of the acceleration due to gravity and neglect friction forces. once you have pulled hard enough to start the box moving upward, what is the magnitude f of the upward force you must apply to the rope to start raising the box with constant velocity? express the magnitude of the force in terms of m, the mass of the box.

Air enters a gas turbine with two stages of compression and two stages of expansion at 100 kpa and 17°c. this system uses a regenerator as well as reheating and intercooling – the intercooler returns the air to the inlet temperature. the pressure ratio across each compressor is 4 ; 300 kj/kg of heat are added to the air in each combustion chamber; and the regenerator operates perfectly while increasing the temperature of the cold air by 20°c. determine the system’s thermal efficiency. assume isentropic operations for all compressor and the turbine stages and use constant specific heats at room temperature.
