The motion of the loop through the magnetic field induces an emf and a current in the loop. The field then gives rise to a magnetic force on this current that opposes the downward force of gravity. The loop reaches terminal speed (it no longer accelerates) when the upward magnetic force balances the downward force of gravity. Required:
a. Consider the case in which the entire loop is in the magnetic-field region. Is there an induced emf in this case? If so, what is its direction?
b. Consider the case in which only the upper segment of the loop is in the magnetic-field region. Is there an induced emf in this case? If so, what is its direction?
