A heavy weight eagle is wandering around and suddenly decides to land at the tip of a branch of an old tree. As a vibration expert you are called upon to analyze the following problem for the Forest Trees Protection Society of San Luis Obispo. The mass of a typical heavy weight eagle is 10 Kg and the branch is modeled as a cantilever beam with E=100MPa, l=10-4 m4, L=2m and assumed to be massless, and having a damping ratio of 1%. Find the maximum bending stress developed at the point of connection of the branch with the trunk of the tree. If assuming the distance from the centroid of the cross section of the branch to the top or bottom fiber of the cross section of the branch is 5 cm and the mother nature has limited the tolerable bending stress of the branch to 150 kPa, will this branch tolerate the drop weight of the monkey? Hint: Draw the shear-moment diagram of the branch.

Acarpenter builds an exterior house wall with a layer of wood 2.9 cm thick on the outside and a layer of styrofoam insulation 2.3 cm thick on the inside wall surface. the wood has k=0.080w/(m⋅k), and the styrofoam has k= 0.010 w/(m⋅k). the interior surface temperature is 19.0 ∘c , and the exterior surface temperature is -15.0 ∘c . a.)what is the temperature at the plane where the wood meets the styrofoam? celsius b.)what is the rate of heat flow per square meter through this wall? /m^2

You have two photos of a person walking. one shows the person at the corner of third and main streets, the other shows the person at the corner of tenth and main streets. there are lampposts at every corner in this town, and the first picture shows it to be 10: 32: 00 exactly. the second picture shows it to be 10: 49: 30. you know three facts: (1) all of the clocks are synchronized; (2) there are exactly 12 equal-sized blocks per kilometer in this town; and (3) the streets that cross main in this area are numbered consecutively, with no interruptions. what is the person’s average speed in kilometers per hour?
