In canoeing, you paddle backward to go forward. Canoeing can be explained by Newton's third law that says
A) The water transfers energy to the boat to make it move.
B) Once the boat is moving forward, it will naturally continue to move forward.
C) As the paddle push the water backward, the water pusher the paddler forward with an equal force.
D) The body of water has a larger mass and will exert a larger force on the paddle then the paddle does on the water.

Unpolarized light falls on two polarizer sheets whose transmission axes are at right angles. a third polarizer is placed between the first two so that its axis makes a 52-degree angle with the axis of the first polarizer. a) what fraction of the incident light intensity is transmitted through the first polaroid? b) what fraction of the incident light intensity is transmitted through the second polaroid? c) what is the angle of polarization of the light that enters the third polaroid? d) what fraction of the incident light intensity is transmitted through the third polaroid. e) what happens if the middle polaroid is removed?

Air is contained in a variable-load piston-cylinder device equipped with a paddle wheel. initially, air is at 400 kpa and 17°c. the paddle wheel is now turned by an external electric motor until 75 kj/kg of work has been transferred to air. during this process, heat is transferred to maintain a constant air temperature while allowing the gas volume to triple. calculate the required amount of heat transfer in kj/kg.
