A person leaps from an airplane 5000 feet above the ground and deploys her/his parachute after 7 seconds. Assume that the air resistance both before and after deployment of the parachute results in a deceleration proportional to the person's velocity, but with a different constant of proportionality. Before deployment, take the constant to be 0.16, and after deployment use the value 1.6. (The acceleration due to gravity is 32.2ft/sec^2. Note also that the constants of proportionality given are rho = klm, not k.) a. How fast is the person going when the parachute is deployed? speed = b. How high off the ground is the person when the parachute is deployed? height= c. Approximately (to one decimal place) how much longer does it take the person to reach the ground (give your answer in seconds)?

Cyclotrons are widely used in nuclear medicine for producing short-lived radioactive isotopes. these cyclotrons typically accelerate h- (the hydride ion, which has one proton and two electrons) to an energy of 5 mev to 20 mev. this ion has a mass very close to that of a proton because the electron mass is negligible—about 1 2000 of the proton’s mass. a typical magnetic field in such cyclotrons is 1.9 t. (a) what is the speed of a 5.0-mev h-? (b) if the h- has energy 5.0 mev and b = 1.9 t, what is the radius of this ion’s circular orbit?
