The resistance force acting on the rock is:

f=kv

where

v is the speed of the rock

At the beginning, the speed of the rock is zero, so the resistance force is also zero:

f=0

This means that the only force acting on the rock is the downward force:

F = 16.3 N

By applying Newton's second law,

F=ma

where

m = 4.00 kg is the mass of the rock

We find the initial acceleration:
